Federer vs Muller
us open 2008
quarterfinal - quarter final

CAN FEDERER RETAIN HIS TITLE FOR A 5TH CONSECUTIVE TIME ??
OR WILL NADAL WIN HIS FIRST US OPEN ??

Federer eases into US Open semis

Roger Federer rarely hit his best form but did enough to beat Gilles Muller of Luxembourg 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 7-6 (7-5) and reach the semi-finals of the US Open.

The second seed, bidding for a fifth straight Grand Slam success at Flushing Meadows, narrowly edged the opening set before upping his game in the next.

Muller, who had to qualify for the tournament, refused to lie down and took the third into another tie-break.

He then led it 4-1 and 5-3 before the world number two hit back ruthlessly.

Two unforced errors from the Muller racket proved critical just when it looked like Federer might be forced into a fourth set.

But the man ranked 130 in the world, and the surprise package of the tournament, was not disgraced and produced some impressive service games.

606: DEBATE
If Murray can beat Nadal then I'm sure he can overcome Federer if he was to make it to the final!

Federer, whose victory extended his US Open winning streak to 32 matches, will next face the winner of the final men's quarter-final to be played - a potential cracker between Serbian third seed Novak Djokovic and US eighth seed Andy Roddick.

The Swiss is seeking a 13th Grand Slam title to move within one of Pete Sampras's all-time record.

He has triumphed in six out of eight meetings with Djokovic, including last year's US Open final, and is 15-2 record against Roddick.

The other men's semi-final involves Briton Andy and world number one Rafael Nadal, seeking his third Grand Slam in a row after beating Federer in the French Open and Wimbledon finals.
